Implant therapy is that aspect of dentistry which is interested in replacing missing teeth with a titanium implant which is secured in the bone. Surgery is performed to place the titanium implant and then teeth can be attached to complete the dentition. Surgery is completed in our office with Dr. Gosch performing the surgery. Local anesthetic and an optimal oral sedation may be used. There is a lot of planning and groundwork that goes in to every case, therefore preparatory models and records are taken and thoroughly reviewed before any work begins.
The sequence is usually as follows:
1. Record taking appointment with Dr.Gosch to begin the process. This may include several radiographs, photos and impressions.
2. A referral is made to to Radia Imaging in Everett for a Computerized tomography (CT) scan. Dr.Gosch takes the results of the CT scan and does a computerized, digital placement study of where the implants will be placed. We are one of the premier office which utilizes this technology in our implant phase. This computer study aids the surgeon in an accurate placement of the implants. Implants are placed in the most optimal location for function and longevity.
3. Surgery actually takes place and the implants are placed into your bone. The implant may remain covered for 2-4 months during the healing period, OR a temporary tooth may be placed at the time of surgery. As the bone attaches to the implant, it also becomes dense and ready to accept a final restoration. If a healing time is indicated, Dr.Gosch can make temporary teeth so you will never have to be without them.
4. The final (restorative) step is to attach crowns, bridges, or even dentures to the implants.
During the surgical procedure, you will be given an anesthetic, so you will feel no discomfort.
Dr. Gosch uses gentle techniques that result in a minimum of discomfort to the patient. Please follow all post operative instructions to ensure the best possible result in healing.
