Implant

PAIN

After the implant placement, you should expect a minimum of discomfort for the first 24 hours. This is normal. If you have severe or dull aching pain, call our office immediately. If a tooth was extracted in conjunction with this appointment, call us if you experience any pain, tissue (gum) redness or swelling around the site.

BLEEDING

It is normal for the surgical site to bleed for about 20 minutes after surgery. A clot will then form and the healing will begin. If bleeding persists, call the office.

MEDICATIONS

Research has shown that if the patient takes anti-inflammatory medication (Ibuprofen) following treatments, there is better healing and less discomfort. I recommend 800mg every 4 hours for three days following treatment. Advil, Motrin, or generic is acceptable.

Peridex, an antimicrobial rinse was dispensed. Please start rinsing 72 hours after surgery. Rinse 1/2 oz. twice daily until the bottle is finished.

Antibiotics: Continue taking the antibiotics as prescribed. Please take all the tablets.

GENERAL INFORMATION

After the second day, start one teaspoon of table salt dissolved in 8 oz. warm water and use as a rinse. Do this one time every waking hour and it will aid in the healing process. Do not smoke or consume alcoholic beverages 48 hours after surgery. Do not drink any beverages through a straw. Please plan on reducing your activity level for 24 hours following the procedure. Please rest to allow your body it's best healing chance.

DIET

On Day 1, please observe a liquid diet. Ensure, blended foods, and smoothies are acceptable. After 48 hours, you can eat soft, nutritious foods. These would include: soups, mashed potatoes & gravy, steamed veggies, macaroni & cheese, and blended foods. Begin eating solid foods on Day 7.

BRUSHING INSTRUCTIONS

Do not brush your teeth in the surgical area for the first 7 days. Rather, use the provided green sponge dipped in Peridex and gently wipe the teeth and gums.

Please take 1500mg Calcium daily during the 3 month healing phase for the best chance of bone attachment.

Please take 2000mg of Vitamin C daily during the 3 month healing phase for aiding the connective tissue. Please take a high quality brand of supplement ie: Shiff brand
