Bone Graft

PAIN

After the extraction of a tooth, you may have some discomfort for the first 24 hours. This is normal. If you have severe or dull aching pain, call our office immediately.

BLEEDING

It is normal for the surgical site to bleed for the first 20 minutes after surgery. A clot should them form and healing begin. If bleeding persists, call the office.

MEDICATIONS

Research has shown that if the patient takes anti-inflammatory medication (Ibuprofen) following treatment there is better healing and less discomfort. I recommend 800mg every 4 hours for three days following treatment. Advil, Motrin, or generic is acceptable.

Peridex, an antimicrobial rinse was dispensed. Please start rinsing 72 hours after surgery. Rinse 1.2 oz twice daily until the bottle is finished.

Antibiotics: It is important to take the first dosage the same day as the surgery. Please take all medicaitons prescribed.

GENERAL INFORMATION

After the second day, start rinsing with 1/2 teaspoon of table salt dissolved in 8oz. warm water. Do this one time every waking hour and it will aid in the healing process. Do not smoke or consume alcoholic beverages 48 hours after surgery. Do not drink any beverage through a straw as this dislodges the clot which is necessary for healing.

DIET

On day 1, please observe a liquid diet. Slim Fast, Boost, blended foods, and smoothies are acceptable. After 48 hours, you can eat soft nutritious foods. These would include: soups, mashed potatoes and gravy, steamed veggies, macaroni and cheese, and blended foods.

BRUSHING INSTRUCTIONS

Do not brush your teeth in the surgical area for the first 2 hours. Rather, use the provided green sponge and gently wipe the teeth and gums.

WHITE BARRIER MEMBRANE

There will be a white membrane over the bone graft site. It is there to protect the area and will be removed at your next appointment.

SUPPLEMENT INFORMATION

Please take the 1500mg of Calcium daily during the 3 month healing phase.

Please take 2000mg of Vitamin C daily during the 3 month healing phase.
