PAIN
After tooth preparation, you may have some mild discomfort for the first 24 hours. This is normal. If you have prolonged or severe pain, call our office immediately. Our number is 360-659-7617. If you call the office on a weekend, there is an emergency number to call on the recorder.
MEDICATIONS
Research has been shown that if the patient takes an anti-inflammatory medication i.e Ibuprofen following treatment, there is better healing and less discomfort. Recommended dosage is 800mg every 4 hours for day 1, 600mg every 4 hours on day 2, 400mg every 4 hours on day 3 following treatment. Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, or a generic is acceptable.
TOOTHBRUSHING
The gums will be tender for 3 days following the appointment. This is normal. Soften your toothbrush under hot water and gently massage the gums without toothpaste to promote healing.
THE BITE
You should feel your teeth biting evenly on both sides when the numbness wears off. If the bite is uneven, call our office. Adjustment of the temporary will prevent tooth sensitivity that may result in a rescheduling of your crown seat appointment.
THE NUMBNESS
The numbness will last 2 to 5 hours following the appointment. This is normal.
DIET
Avoid hard, crunchy, sticky or gummy foods. They will break or pull off the provisional crown.
FLOSSING
Floss gently and pull to the side, not up.
PROVISIONAL CROWNS
Provisional crowns are necessary to hold the space and cover the tooth to prevent sensitivity. If your provisional comes off, please call to have it recemented. If you are out of town, use the NoMix temporary cement that was given to you at your prep appointment. Do not go without the provisional. Problems may occur if left off which may affect the seating of your premanent crown. If left off, the other teeth may drift or unhealthy tissue may result due to a loose temporary.
If you have any orthodontic retainers or night guards, they may not fit with the provisional crown. Please discontinue their use until the premanent crown is installed.
Please take the 3 saltropine tablets one hour before your next appointment. It will take approximately 40 minutes to put the crown on.
